Coastal Karnataka, which is struggling to recover from the affects of the recent downpour, has been warned about the possibility of heavy rain on two days.
Mangaluru: Deputy commissioners of both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have declared holiday for schools on Friday June 8 and Saturday June 9. If students have already reached schools on Friday morning, teachers are directed to ensure that they return to their homes safely.
The meteorological department has predicted very heavy rain in Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts on Friday and Saturday. Dakshina Kannada district too will experience heavy rainfall during this period. The department said that it expects up to 200 mm rainfall in some places.
Coastal areas will experience blowing of wind from western direction with a velocity of 35 to 45 km per hour. At times the speed might go up to 50 km per hour, it said. As such, fishermen have been warned to be extra cautious. In the coming days, monsoon will intensify further.
During the two days mentioned above, districts situated in south inland and north inland will also get heavy rain. Some districts to the south may get very heavy rainfall, it stated.
On Thursday, coastal areas, Malnad and some districts of northern hinterland got good rainfall. Comparatively, intensity of rainfall was less in districts located in southern hinterland. A few areas in Dakshina Kannada district got rainfall up to 100 mm.
Almost all parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts experienced well spread out rainfall on Thursday.
