Budapest: Hungarian police on Monday said that no explosives have been found aboard an Egypt-bound plane that made an unscheduled landing in Hungary because of a bomb threat.

Police spokeswoman Viktoria Csiszer-Kovacs told The Associated Press on Monday that "no explosives or explosive devices" were found on the plane, which took off from Berlin and was heading to the Egyptian beach resort of Hurghada.

Germany's Condor Airlines said its flight DE490 "made an unscheduled diversion to Budapest" after an "unspecific threat made by phone."

The plane was escorted into Hungarian airspace by a pair of fighter jets of the Hungarian Air Force, the Defence Ministry said, and landed at Liszt Ferenc Airport shortly before noon local time (1100 GMT) on Monday.

Condor said 133 passengers and seven crew members were safe and the company was sending another aircraft to Budapest to take the passengers to their destination.

Earlier, while the plane, passengers and luggage were still being nspected, Csiszer-Kovacs said police were following "established protocol" for what she said was "not an extraordinary situation."

Police said operations at the airport were not affected by the unexpected landing.
