Tehran: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded ceremonial welcome at the forecourts of the Saadabad Palace in Tehran today. He was accompanied by the President of Iran, Dr Hassan Rouhani. Later, both the leaders had a restricted meeting.

“Building an enduring partnership. PM @narendramodi and President Rouhani exchange ideas at a restricted tete-a-tete,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

It was followed by the delegation level talks between the two sides. They are believed to have discussed issues concerning both the sides including the Chabahar Port, boosting bilateral trade, terrorism, promoting cultural ties, encouraging people to people contacts and other connectivity projects.

Signing of several agreements and joint press statements by both the leaders are expected to follow. In the afternoon, the trilateral agreement between India, Iran and Afghanistan in presence of Prime Minister Modi and Presidents of Iran and Afghanistan will be signed.

The other engagements of Prime Minister Modi today include releasing a Parsian literary work and inaugurating an international conference on Indo-Iran bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister's visit comes four months after the sanctions on Iran were lifted and the international community is re-engaging with the nation.

PM Modi will wind up his two day state visit to Iran by meeting the Supreme Leader of the host nation, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
