A leopard was killed by villagers. Not only did they kill the animal, they also gouged its eyes out and chopped off the paws.

In a gut-wrenching incident, a leopard was killed by villagers in Assam. Not only did they kill the animal, they also gouged its eyes out and chopped off the paws after the big cat had critically injured a man. In their defence, people of Veselipathar, a village in Borhat area of upper Assam's Charaideo district, said they were forced to kill the leopard because it was creating terror in the area for the last few weeks, a NDTV report stated.

A local, Nileswar Changmai was attacked by the leopard a few days ago. After the attack, he was taken to Charaideo Civil Hospital and he has now been shifted to Dibrugarh Assam Medical College and Hospital where his condition remains critical. The villagers further claimed the leopard ate several domestic animals.

The villagers went on to allege that the Assam forest department didn't pay heed to their complaints about the leopard and accused them of negligence. The man-animal conflict has been on the rise in the region, they added.

A similar incident had taken place in 2017 where a mob of over 100 people in Dibrugarh killed a leopard and ate its meat after it had killed a 60-year-old woman.
