A Man bet his wife in a game of poker and then allowed her to be raped by a friend and relative after losing his stake, it was reported. The horrifying incident took place in the Indian city of Jaunpur, in the northern province of Uttar Pradesh.

The woman reported the rape to police but they refused to act until ordered to by a court (file picture)

The victim said her husband’s friend Arun and the relative named Anil would often visit their house to drink and gamble.

During one game he ran out of money and bet her instead but when he lost, let the pair gang rape her, NDTV reported.

After the attack, the victim went to her maternal uncle’s house and her husband followed her there.

He asked forgiveness and said that it was a mistake after which she went in his car to return home.

But on their way, her husband stopped the car and once allowed his friends to gang-rape.

She complained to the police but they refused to file a complaint, forcing the woman to go to court to get officers to deal with the rape allegation.

India has been plagued by a series of horrific sex attacks on attacks on women and girls, including the gang rape and murder of a student on a New Delhi bus in 2012.

Since 2012 the number of reported rapes in Delhi has increased to six a day.

Last week, two paedophiles allegedly raped and beheaded a three-year-old girl who was kidnapped while sleeping beside her mum at a railway station in India.

Railway police said the toddler was decapitated with a sharp weapon after she started crying while being sexually assaulted.

Eight-year-old Asifa Bano’s death sparked international outrage when it came to light in early April 2018.

She was kidnapped, murdered and gang-raped for three days at a temple and the case prompted the Indian government to consider the death penalties for such crimes.

At the beginning of this year an engineering student was gang raped for two days before being left to die in a forest in India.

The 20-year-old woman was left in critical condition following the brutal attack that started on December 30 in the eastern state of Odisha.
