Uday Kumar (28yrs), was working in an aluminium fabrication and was the only source of income for his family that includes himself, his mother Yamuna and sister Manisha. He had a fall from a height of around ten feet during his work routine which caused severe spinal cord injury making him unable to stand on his own feet. He was taken to nearby hospital and advised to undergo surgery. But the surgery was unsuccessful and he remains paralysed in the lower half of the body.
Uday is bedridden since the last five years and his mother is striving hard by rolling beedies which fetches them only Rs 3,000 per month. The mother has to be around her son for even his urinary and fecal discharge and it is impossible for her to work outdoors. The family has spent Rs 1.5 lacs for hospitalization and about Rs 10,000 per month on medicines.
