Transport strike on Mar 30, private buses not to participate

Private buses in the twin-districts will not take part in the transport strike call given by associations representing lorries, taxis, maxi-cabs, and private buses across southern states on March 30, in support of various demands. State Bus Owners Union president, Rajavarma Ballal, said that private buses will move normally on Thursday in the twin-districts as the students who are going through examination season will be put to trouble if there are no buses.

Ballal was speaking after taking part in a joint meeting of Canara Bus Owners Association, Udupi Bus Owners Association and Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association on Tuesday March 28.

Transporters have decided to stay away from road for a day to protest against hike in insurance premium, state carriage tax hike, increase in transport office fee, delaying tactics being employed in entering into inter-state tax agreement, policies of central government that is against private transporters etc. Owners and employees of private buses, tempos, taxis and other vehicles will take part in this strike but private buses will be operated normally because of SSLC examination that is set to begin on March 30, Ballal stated.

Udupi Bus Owners Association president, Kuilady Suresh Nayak, president of Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association, Aziz Partippady, Contract Carriage Bus Owners Association president, Jayaram Shekha, Kinnigoly zone Bus Owners Association president, Durgaprasad Hegde, and others were present.
