"Facing the tragedy of radical Islam, Italy is united and ... will not back-track in the face of the madness of those who want to destroy the life we live everyday," Renzi told a news conference in Rome.

"Our prayers, our thoughts, our tears join the tears of Dhaka's families. In particular the families of our citizens (who were killed in the attack), to them our thoughts are going, and the attention of the crisis unit of Farnesina (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Renzi said.

"We followed the events all night hoping for a different outcome. Now an aircraft from the Prime Minister's Office is leaving for Bangladesh," he added.
