Uttar Pradesh, India: The wife of a CRPF jawan, who was missing for five days, was found murdered near a drain in Bhaupur Maitha, Kanpur police said on Saturday.

The victim's lover, along with two others, has been arrested after he admitted to the killing over suspicion of her having another relationship with a different man, the police added.

"We have arrested three persons in connection with the murder. One Mukhtar has been identified as the main accused and lover of the victim. Further investigation is underway," said Additional DCP, West Kanpur, Brajesh Kumar Srivastava.

The incident occurred when the CRPF jawan, identified as Inderpal, a resident of Panki Ratanpur Colony in Kanpur, was on election duty in Mainpuri, while his wife Geeta (34), the victim, and their two children Sushantk and Siddharth were at home.

On February 20, Inderpal made several calls to his wife, but she didn't answer. Apprehending something untoward, Inderpal immediately informed Panki police, who reached the location and found out that the victim was not at home.

According to police officials, empty beer cans, glasses and some objectionable items were found in the room.

On February 21, Inderpal returned home and filed a missing person's report with the local police station, which launched a probe into the case.

The victim's call records showed that she made her last call to Mukhtar, a car mechanic and a resident of the Rura Jamalpur area before she went missing.

Police then took him under custody and interrogated him, after which Mukhtar admitted to the crime.

On Friday night, Panki station in-charge Anjan Kumar recovered the body near the drain.

In his statement to the police, Mukhtar said that he was upset with Geeta as she had started talking to someone else. One of the victim's sons has identified Pushpendra Singh, a property dealer and resident of Gangaganj, as the second lover of the victim, police said.

On the evening of the incident, after taking her with him in a car, Mukhtar strangled her to death and threw the body in the drain, police said.

He also told the police that he had a relationship with the victim before her marriage to Inderpal.
