Maharashtra (India): In yet another incident of sexual assault, a Navy personnel’s wife was allegedly raped by his colleague at their shared rented flat in Maharashtra’s Mumbai. The crime occurred last month but came to light on May 17 when the accused was arrested following a complaint by the affected woman.
The woman said that the accused threatened to kill himself when she said that she would tell her husband about the incident.
Police said the affected woman’s husband and the accused man, who is unmarried, took an apartment on rent in Mumbai’s Colaba area last year. At the time of the incident, the woman’s husband had gone to Kerala for training. Initially, she didn’t report the crime as the accused had threatened her saying that if she disclosed the incident, he would kill himself and falsely implicate her husband. Later, she gathered courage and narrated her harrowing ordeal to her husband, following which a case was registered and the accused was arrested.
How it happened
“In her complaint, the woman said that on April 29, the accused was happy as he had got a promotion and offered her chocolates he had recently got from Dubai. He even had a few drinks. Later, she went to her bedroom and took a painkiller as she had a headache,” a report published by The Times of India stated.
The woman further stated that the accused, after some time, came to her room under the pretext of giving a head massage to her and sexually assaulted her. The woman told the accused that she would inform her husband about his act. Hearing this, the accused threatened to commit suicide by shooting himself and falsely implicate her husband.
The woman got scared. She made an attempt to slit her wrists. Later, she gathered courage and narrated her harrowing ordeal to her husband on the phone. Last week, her husband returned to Mumbai from Kerala and filed a complaint with the Naval Police. Thereafter, a case under relevant IPC sections was registered at the Cuffe Parade police station and the accused was arrested.
