Former Tata director honoured by Queen Elizabeth II

London:  Former UK-based Managing Director of Tata Limited, SA Hasan has been appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as an honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to the country's economy.




Hasan was the Managing Director of Tata Limited, which represents the Tata group in Europe, from 1999 until 2013, the company said in a statement today.

During this period, he played a major role in the growth of Tata's investments in the UK, with the acquisitions of Tetley Tea, Brunner Mond (now Tata ChemicalsBSE -0.02 % Europe), Corus Steel (now Tata SteelBSE 1.84 % Europe), INCAT International plc (now Tata Technologies) and Jaguar Land Rover.

Hasan also contributed to the other development of other Tata businesses in Britain, including Tata Consultancy ServicesBSE 1.75 % (TCS), Taj Group, Tata CommunicationsBSE 0.55 % and Tata Elxsi.

This expansion of the group's operations in the UK led to Tata becoming one of the country's largest manufacturers.

He also used Tata's growth in the UK to help promote British-Indian trade, driving a number of joint initiatives with by UK Trade  and Investment to introduce British companies, particularly SMEs, to the Indian market.

Executive Director of Tata Limited, David Landsman said: "This honour is a great tribute to Anwar Hasan's key role in smoothening the way for Tata's major by investments  in the UK which have played a vital part in the group's global expansion".

"Tata remains committed to the UK economy and we are particularly pleased that this honour reflects and recognises our commitment," he added.
